my little mechanical engineer

April 8, 2008 by Wendy S

Over the last few weeks, Peanut has done some things that blow me away. She is a genius! I swear! (Okay, I might be slightly biased…but only slightly.)

At the baby shower last weekend, she discovered a door that had been proped open with a triangle-shaped door stop (the kind that gets jammed under the door with your foot). She loves opening and closing doors and this one must have stumped her because she couldn’t move the door. She went and looked through the space between the door and the wall where the hinges are. Then she tried to see behind the door on the other side (the side with the handle). When she tried to move the door to get behind it, it wouldn’t move. So she sat down on the floor and wiggled the doorstop until it was loose. She then proceeded to go and hide behind the door.

Today was the pièce de résistance!

I’m in the kitchen getting dinner ready. Munchkin and Peanut are running around playing and dancing. Hubby comes in the kitchen to help finish up dinner. So with everyone running around and dinner almost done, my attention was in 1000 places. Then I hear a flush. I pause and stare at Munchkin for a second while my brain process the fact that it couldn’t have been her who flushed the toilet. Hubby is standing right beside me so it wasn’t him. PEANUT!! I run to the powder room to see a small white thing go down the toilet with a glug, glug, glug. It was a Special K pedometer. Ugh. Peanut’s standing there with wet hands and shirt and the proudest smile on her face!

Someone had left the bathroom door open and even more importantly the toilet lid up. We keep the toilet lid down becuase Peanut likes to play in the water (eww, gross…I know). And for the same reason, we keep Dakota’s food and water bowls in the bathroom and close the door. This keeps Peanut from playing in all the open water sources.

Now I guess we’ll be keeping the bathroom door closed for a third reason…she’s figure out how to flush the toilet.

I wonder what other tricks she’s got up her sleeve.
