first visit with the teacher

October 3, 2008 by Wendy S

Last night Munchkin’s school had a BBQ and Open House.

The BBQ was sponsored by Harvey’s and we could have hamburgers or hot dogs, chips and a drink.  It was reasonably priced and very yummy.

After we ate, we got a chance to go into her classroom.  We got to see what she’s been doing, things she’s been learning and things that she’s made.  They had made turkeys out of construction paper (which we got to take home).  Munchkin hadn’t written her name on hers, but Mrs. Teacher knew it was hers because she really liked using glue.  Lets just say that our turkey isn’t very flexible.

And here’s where I get to brag….

I had asked Mrs. Teacher how she’s doing.  Teacher said that she’s doing great!  She said that Munchkin is the only JK kid that can “read” the poem they’ve been working on!   Munchkin is in a blended JK/SK class and they learn to “read” thru memorization and then word recognition.   Woo hoo!

Tho if I think about it, this should be no surprise as Munchkin has memorized all of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”.  But to hear from the teacher that she’s doing well is very comforting.

We also found out that she has become very good friends with a boy.  I’ll call him C.  This is no surprise as Munchkin talk about C all the time.  I had met C’s dad on one of the days that we visited the school in early September.  Very nice family and the actually live down the street from us.  C and Munchkin ride the bus together too.  Oh, let’s not forget to mention that C is in SK… and older man!  LOL!

After meeting with the teacher, C and Munchkin wanted to outside to play.   This gave Hubby and I a chance to talk with C’s parents.  C has a younger brother and a younger sister.  Sister is 2 months younger than Peanut.  So the kids all played until we got too cold just standing around.

Munchkin got invited to C’s birthday party.  C’s mom had said that she was just going to invite the boys in the class but since they are such good friends, she wants Munchkin to come too.

So my child is becoming a well rounded individual…making friends and doing well in school!
