she’s a fish!

February 27, 2009 by Wendy S

I’m proud to announce that Muchkin has passed her first session of swimming lessons –  Preschool A !!

Last summer we spent lots of time in the neighbours pool and she became very comfortable in the water, but she always was wearing a PFD.  I want her to be a good, strong swimmer.

As a former life guard and swimming instructor, I wasn’t sure what the expectations of the new levels are.  And with this being Munckin’s first lessons since she was 6 months old, I decided to take the lessons with her.
I’m sure I pushed her harder than the other parents pushed their kids.

Her last lesson was the best of the 8.  All of the skills they learned all had “with assistance” attached to it so she didn’t have to do anything by herself.  We worked on front and back floats, kicking on her front and back, front and back glides, jumping into the water, blowing bubbles and putting her face in.  Wednesday she put her face in!  I was so proud.

Though, I think I might have been holding her back.  Yes, I know I just said that I was pushing her, but I think she tended to cling to me because I was there.  I’m hoping that if she was working with an instructor she’d be less clingy.

Starting at the end of March, she’ll be in Preschool B all by herself.  She’s very excited!

Oh, and if you’ve found your way here from my good friend, Kia… Hello!  Thanks for stopping by!

I’m officially a

Last night we registered Munchkin for soccer. It will start in May/June and will run probably until the end of August. She’ll play every Saturday.

If you’ve ever seen an “Under 5” soccer game, you know the fun that we are about to embark. A pack of kids under 4 feet tall, wearing brightly coloured shirts that will probably be too big, all running, trying to get the ball into the net. Which may not be too difficult if the “goalie” is picking grass or playing in the dirt.

I give lots of credit to the coaches who try very hard to teach them the rules of the game and how not to be in pack formation.

Munchkin is going to have lots of fun…I know she will. And she’s going to make new friends too. She’s very excited about playing. Tho the concept of pre-registration was funny. She asked if she was going to be playing inside and was a bit distressed when I said that she’d play outside. “But it’s too cold, Mommy!” She didn’t like that she was going to have to wait until it was warm enough outside…”that’s a long time from now!”

It is a bit of a wait…but it does mean that summer IS actually going to come even if it is “a long time from now.”

Stay tuned for my thrilling posts about bringing the sliced oranges!

family day (feb 16th) & valentine’s day date night (feb 13th)

February 18, 2009 by bigdaddy

By @BigDaddyKreativ:

Well… although it wasn’t really a “Family Day” for us, we did spend it with family.  My parents are preparing to move soon.  They interviewed a few real estate agents last week, and all of them had commented that they needed to remove the numerous pictures on the wall in the family room.  My parents have hung pictures of them, their kids, and their grandkids… so needless to say, there were alot of pictures.  So me being the wonderful son that I am with so much time on my hands (LOL),  I offered to remove the pictures, patch the walls, spot sand, tape the trim, and paint.  As this cannot be done in one day, I removed the pictures and patched the walls on Thursday night, sanded and taped Friday.  I put the first coat of paint on Saturday while Mapsgirl was at a play with her mom and sister-in-law.  My parents watched the girls.  On Sunday, we all went back over and Mapsgirl and I put the final coat of paint on.  The next morning (Family Day), after Mapsgirl left for work, I took Peanut and Munchkin over to my parents place to remove the tape, put all the outlet covers back on, and replace the cold air return (as the previous owners painted it and it looked terrible).  They are quite inexpensive at Home Depot, and a new one looks much better than painting the old one, and much easier to do too.

When we were done, we went to out for lunch (because the girls were so good), and then went home.  My Mum kept the girls quite busy while I was working, so they were pretty tired.  We all went down for a nap at 1:30pm.  Next thing I knew… it was 4:40pm, Dakota woke up (she sleeps beside my side of the bed), Munchkin was passed out beside me, and Peanut (who was in her crib) was just starting to wake up (her voice in the monitor was what woke Dakota up).  I went out to get Peanut and realized Mapsgirl was already home.  She had left work early, and when she got home to a quiet home, she didn’t want to disturb us.  I started to think what a  wonderful nap I just had, although my arm was a little numb from Munchkin’s head laying on it for 3 hours!  The long nap was so relaxing… and much needed after all we did this past weekend.  I just wish Mapsgirl was home to enjoy the morning, lunch out, and the long nap… and enjoy Family Day with us.
Well… at least we had a night out for Valentine’s Day (on Friday night).  We went to the Keg for dinner, and then to a pub for a couple beers.  It was great… date night.  I was looking forward to it for weeks.
Now… I bet you’re wondering why I mentioned these 2 events out of order.   Well… although I missed Mapsgirl on Family Day, we got to spend some quality time talking, laughing, and enjoying each others company… just the 2 of us.  With such hectic lives, time is so valuable.  Time together alone is priceless.
Although I love the fact we have a new statutory holiday to spend with our families, every day is family day to me.  In all, I’d say it was a wonderful weekend.

February 17, 2009 by Wendy S

Over the next little while I’m going to play with the template a little. I found a cute background and I’m going to make some more changes over time.
