When I first heard about the possibility of promoting the Barbie I Can Be website, I knew I had to do this. I had to do this for my daughters. I know how much the two of them love playing with their Barbies, using there imaginations to take them where ever they want to go.
Since they’re still little, the “what I want to be when I grow up” changes ever day. I’m perfectly okay with that. I want them to dream. I want them to think big.
There is one very special women who stands out from my childhood. Molly Erwin was such a role model for me. I first met her when I was six. She was my Brown Owl in Brownies. She was also my Sunday School teacher. As I grew up and few up through the Guiding movement, she was there to teach me and help me earn my Religion in Life badges. Looking back, there wasn’t anyone better suited to help me with those badges. She really did take her faith with her throughout everything she did in her life. This is something that I hope the girls are able to do.
Life isn’t just about going to school and getting a good job. A common thread between all these women is that they gave back to their communities. Up until a few years ago, GG volunteered at the gift shop at her local hospital. My mom…well I could go a whole post for the different ways that she gives back. From canvasing for the Canadian Cancer Society to severing breakfast at a local school, she gives her time, and her heart to those who need it.
I want the girls to go out in to the community and help in any way they can. BigDaddy and I enjoy the volunteer work we do. It’s so nice to know that a little of our time can help others in a very big way.
Teaching these values to the girls isn’t easy. That’s why I’m so excited to share with you the Barbie I Can Be website

I’m also enjoying all of the posts on the I Can Be the Voice website, that were written by other moms with daughters. They have shared their own personal experiences and it’s nice to hear from someone in my same shoes.
If you’re a mom of a daughter, what do you hope for for your daughter? What do you hope that they can learn from you? What are your worries?
Let’s be there for each other through this journey.
