babble put out a great post with an amazing graphic about the new Car Seat Law that comes into effect in 2014 in the United States.
The new law states that the maximum weight of the LATCH anchors in a vehicle is 65lbs. This means:
If the weight of your child combined with the weight of the car seat is over 65lbs, you have to install the car seat with the seat belt.
Nothing. Our laws are not changing.
From Transport Canada’s website:
Important: If your child weighs over 18 kg (40 lbs), please ask your vehicle manufacturer if your vehicle can support a heavier child with the UAS and tether, or the seat belt and tether.”
To find the customer service number of your vehicle’s manufacture, please read your owners manual.
Maybe. Transport Canada has made this statement about the NHTSA Final Rule.
Car seat technicians will teach you to stop using UAS at a child’s weight of 40 pounds without taking into consideration the weight of the car seat. Until the federal government makes official changes to the Regulations, we have to follow the instructions from the car seat manufacturer and the vehicle manufacturer. If neither of them specifically state a combined weight, then it would be wise to stick to the 40 pound limit for UAS.
I know there will be a lot of questions, please comment below, and I’ll be happy to answer them!!

As you may know, with women twice as likely as men to be affected by brain diseases such as dementia, stroke and depression as they age, WBHI is a Canadian charity working to raise funds to enhance research to find out why and improve the outcomes for women everywhere.
WBHI’s Hope-Knot, designed by renowned Canadian jeweller Mark Lash, is an icon designed by the Women’s Brain Health Initiative to create awareness and escalate concern over the unchecked growth of dementia and other aging brain diseases in women. A symbol of the importance of memory and a loose visual likeness of the brain, the Hope-Knot reminds us of how connected every aspect of our lives is to our ability for cognitive thought.
A loose visual likeness of the brain, the Hope-Knot is a stylish and beautiful piece of jewellery that represents how cognitive thought is connected to every aspect of life. Giving a Hope-Knot as a gift means supporting an important cause and giving a lasting symbol of how much the women in our lives – mother, daughter, sister, partner or best friend – matter.
So the next time you see someone wearing a Hope-Knot, take a moment to think of the women in your life – your mother, daughter, sister, partner or best friend and remind yourself of how much you depend on their insights, memories, and that twinkle in their eyes. And the next time you see one for sale, remind yourself how much all of that is worth to you. And then when people see you wearing yours, pass the thought on to them. Support the Initiative. Wear a Hope-Knot.
The Hope-Knot is available in stainless steel as a pin, and in sterling silver pins, pendants, necklaces and cufflinks. Hope-Knots can be purchased online at: http://hopeknot.myshopify.com/.
I’m very honoured to help spread this message by giving away 2 of these beautiful pins to my readers!

This has been a long time coming…looooong time!
Being the techie geek that I am, I wanted to do the move myself. I have read countless posts on how other made the switch. What to move first, how to move the domain, importing the posts, what plugins to use and how not to lose your SEO.
It was almost too much information. My head was spinning. I didn’t want to make a mistake. I didn’t want posts or comments to be lost.
Comments was a big issue. For the longest time I have been using Disqus. I really like Disqus and wanted to continue using it. But how do you get the 1000’s of comments from Blogger to the new WordPress site moved? Disqus has online tools and plugin and it worked…for all but 10 posts. With the help of the awesome customer service people at Disqus (folow them @disqushelp), I got all of the comments moved. All of them!! Woohoo!!!
So I had all the blog posts moved over to the new development blog. All of the comments were working. Last thing to do…redirect “mapsgirl.ca” away from blogger and point it at my new WordPress blog. A few days ago, I called GoDaddy and talked to their amazing customer service people and made sure I had all of the steps in the right order.
Craig made an awesome new logo and header for me! It was time to move away from a title that didn’t really fit my blog anymore. “Funny things are everywhere” was fun for a while, but I wasn’t a humour blog. Now I’m just me! Mapsgirl!
Last night, I clicked the right buttons. Made all the changes required. And here we are!!
Everything is mine. My domain. My hosting. My blog is mine!
I moved over 800 blog posts and 1000’s of comments!
My feed is pointed at the right place and people are getting updates! My SEO still seems to be intact (*crossing my fingers* that is stays that way)
This is a very proud moment for me! I hope you enjoy my new blog!
