4 Easy Yet Simple Ways of Improving Your Mental Health

December 19, 2024 by Wendy S

Poor mental health is a big part of today’s world. Actually, it’s always been a big part of the world, but these days we are able to talk about it openly rather than keep it to ourselves. While this is a great thing and has spread awareness globally, it still doesn’t necessarily help turn things around. Yes, people may be more accepting and willing to lend an ear, but is that really enough?

Before we delve into anything, if you’re suffering from poor mental health, you should always seek medical advice above anything else. Even if you don’t want medication for it, your Doctor can give you expert advice on how to improve your mental health. But, if you’re looking for some ways to improve your mental health at home, take a look at these suggestions.

Eat a nutritious diet

While it’s perfectly okay to have the odd day where you eat junk food, it’s not beneficial in any way to your mind or your body. Junk food doesn’t contain any nutritional value, which means your body and your brain aren’t getting what they need to thrive. You might notice weight gain, more acne, poor sleep and above all else, poor mental health. This is because your brain is struggling to create the happy hormone it needs. Eat a healthier diet and you’ll notice an improvement in all of the above – and sooner than you think too!

Reduce your debt

Having debt to worry about is bad enough, but when it starts taking a toll on your mental health, it’s time to take action. While your debt won’t magically disappear, you can take steps to begin reducing it. While it’s absolutely possible to clear debt on your own without any intervention, sometimes looking at a debt solution like a consumer proposal might help. Not all debt solutions work for everyone, so make sure you do your research before committing to anything. Once you start seeing your debt reduce, your mental health should improve too.

Cut down on hours

Poor mental health can sometimes lead to taking sick leave from work to try and improve your mental health. And while this works for some people, sometimes it can have the opposite effect. Consider speaking to your boss and explaining your situation. They might be willing to cut down your hours for the time being so that things aren’t so overwhelming yet you’re still able to earn money. Sometimes actually getting up and going to work can help put you in a better frame of mind.

Eliminate toxic people from your life

Finally, we’re taught from young to love our family because, well, they’re family. However, if they are a toxic part of your life and directly contribute to your poor mental health, it might be time to eliminate them from your life. If someone loves and respects you, they will treat you well. Anything else just simply isn’t worth the heartache, pain and most importantly, mental health.
