where’s the pause button?

Today when I dropped Peanut off at the nursury at Church before the service, she came running back to me, whining. The same whine that was usually followed by the “don’t ever leave me Mommy” hug.

But today it was a quick kiss and then the “put me down” push away. And she ran back to her toys.

Ugh.

I’m excited that she’s getting confident enough to be happy in the nursery. It also shows the great people we have at our church that always take great care of the kids in the nursery. But, it also makes me wonder how my baby got so big? And so independant?

I can speak “Starbucks”!!

Last night, after Julie and I went and ate waaaay too much at the The Taste of Paris (fundraiser for Peel Partners), we went for coffee at Starbucks.

I had asked her what I should order since I my usual coffee place is Timmy’s and “coffee” is written in English on the menu board. She suggested a latte (espresso with steamed milk) made with a shot of vanilla flavour and low fat milk.

So I got a “Tall skinny vanilla latte”!!

Thirteen errors parents make installing child car seats

Rear-facing:1. car seat not at a 45 degree angle
2. infant car seat carrying handle left up
3. car seat touches front passenger seat(s) (not all car seats allow for this)
4. chest clip not at arm pit level
Forward-facing:5. child put forward facing too soon
6. tether not used correctly or not at all
General car seat errors:7. child is the wrong size (too big or too small) for the car seat
8. UAS/LATCH or car seat belt not tight enough (shuld move no more that 1″ in any direction)
9. belt clip used improperly or not at all
10. harness straps or seat belt (booster) not tight enough
11. harness straps through the wrong slots for child’s height and which direction they’re facing (rear-facing: slots below shoulders; forward-facing: above shoulders)
12. car seat is too old
13. no car seat is used at all (yes, some people still do this…ugh)

drip, drip, drip

April 25, 2008 by Wendy S

Damn me for wanting to fix a leaky bath tub faucet.

I’m the “Mrs Fix it” type who likes DIY projects, so last weekend I headed to Home Depot to inquire about fixing my dripping bath tub faucet. Since I didn’t know if it was for a washer or a cartridge, I was told to turn the water off to the house and take the faucet apart, and bring in the pieces and they’d help me get new ones. Sure, that’s easy!

I get home and head down to the basement to turn the water off. After wiggling under Craig’s desk, I try to turn the handle. Not budging. I try again with a little more force. Hmmm…still not moving. Then I search the internet to see if I’m doing something wrong but ever site says that I just need to turn the handle. I get on the phone and call the region to inquire if I’m doing something wrong. The nice lady on the other end of the phone informs me that my water shut off is seized. Ugh.

We schedule an appointment for a service person to come to the house on Friday. My Mom watches the girls at our house so she’d be able to let them in and show them around.

Thursday night I have to dismantle the desk (previous owners built and installed a desk int he corner infront of the water shut off). That proved to be fairly simple. And when my mom arrived Thrusday night, I joked that my grandpa would have been proud of me (he was a recreational carpenter).

Friday morning, I got a call from my mom saying that the service guy had arrived and that his inital comment was “oh, this is too close to the wall”. Great. (The previous owners had finished the basement and it looks like the wall he built pushed the pipes back a bit which pushed the metre too close to the cement wall/foundation.) Mom said that he was headed outside to shut off the water from the street. A few minutes later, I get another phone call from Mom saying that he was going to have to come back next week because the water shut off at the street needed to be replaced as well. Great.

So I have a bucket in my bathroom collecting dripping water and dismantled desk pieces all over the place. Ugh. Oh, and we’re not sure if we’re going to have to take part of the wall down.
