focusing on happy
I’ve been finding it hard to put all my thoughts into words lately.
Life is busy. This is a good thing. If I stop too long, I’m afraid I’ll worry too much about the stuff that I have no control over.
Let’s focus on the happy! (I think this is my mantra right now)
Swimming lessons ended on a very happy note with both girls advancing. Rachel finished Swimmer 3 and Lauren finished Preschool E. In the fall, Rachel will be in Swimmer 4 and Lauren was recommended for Swimmer 2!! She gets to skip Swimmer 1. She’s my little fish. Rachel surprised us this session tho. Her strokes, particularly back crawl, are starting to look like real strokes and not just arms and legs flailing everywhere.
March Break came and went with out any big hurrah. The girls spent their days at G&G’s house while Craig and I worked. I’m saving my vacation days for this summer. I cannot wait to get out camping!
We did spend time in the evenings outside. The weather was much too nice to stay inside. The girls rode their bikes or played catch. I cleaned up the gardens and chatted with the neighbours catching up on the last few months. Even with the warmer winter weather, people still seemed to hibernate.
The girls’ big hair cuts are only 2 days away! The response that we have gotten from friends is very overwhelming! They’ve raised almost $3000!
But it’s more that just the money. People have shared their personal cancer stories of how it has affected them or a loved one. I am in such awe of my little girls. They want people to have wigs because they know that the medicine needed to make them better makes their hair fall out. Selflessly they will give what they have to help them. And they offer it without hesitation.
I keep these happy thoughts with me as trudge through the not so happy times that may lay ahead.
Please share you happy stories; they will really help right now.
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones.
and good news gives health to the bones.

Special gifts just for my girls (and a #CopsForCancer update)
It’s hard to believe that in 2 weeks the girls will be up on stage in the middle of Square One shopping mall!
Everyone has been so supportive of what they are doing and the donations are so wonderful!
The girls have currently raised $1400!!Only $600 short of the $2000!!
A few people will be sending cheques or dropping of cash donations too! Amazing!
(Maybe we’ll pass the $2000 goal as well — we passed all the other goals we set!)
There will be a few gifts that the girls get that will be to honour themselves!

Please check out the amazing work that Doxa does — http://www.apictureintime.ca/
A tweet from @SalonMonzer reminded me that we would need to schedule the girls for an actual hair appointment where they could get new hair styles. After a few private tweets, Salon Monzer jumped on board!
We’re excited that they are sponsoring the girls hair cuts! After my amazing hair cut by them, I know my girls will be in good hands.
They do so much more than hair tho. Which reminds me that with the warmer weather coming, I’ll need a pedicure to get ready for sandal season!
Their website shows all of the great servcies they provide — http://salonmonzer.com/
When you’re in downtown Oakville, remember… Just look for the purple door!
Thank you to Doxa, Azi and Monzer for these special gifts!!
Thank you to everyone who has donated or will be donating!

awesome friends = new goal #copsforcancer #haircut2012
Originally written February 24th:
Three days ago, I posted about Rachel and Lauren raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society and donating their hair during the Cops for Cancer event in Mississauga, Ontario.
Of course BigDaddy and I shared this on twitter and Facebook!!
So many people retweeted and shared!!
The original goal was $250.
Today, that goal was exceded. Two times over!
Currently, the amount raised is $550!!
Wow!! Thank you to everyone!
But this isn’t the end….nope!
This means that it’s time to reach higher!
We have exactly 1 month until the Cops for Cancer event and if we can do $530 in 3 days, then our new goal should be attainable —
$1000!!
Monday, February 27th (3 days after we set the $1000 goal) we had to raise the goal again to ….
$2000!!
I know we can do this!! Who wants to help???
"I want to cut it for cancer"
I heard these words come out of my 6 year old’s mouth:
“I want to cut if for cancer.”
I stopped in my tracks. Paused. And the only thing I could say was “Really? Go tell your father what you want to do.”
Then I cried.
My little girl wants to give something so precious and the thought came so naturally; without hesitation.
Leading up to this, all I had said was that we should think about get her hair cut because I wanted her to start taking care of the brushing and washing herself. It would be easier if it was shorter.
Since May 2011, she has been growing her hair so that it would be long enough to donate. And is so proud when she tells everyone what she wants to do with her hair.
Christmas Day 2011, my brother asked Rachel (nee Munchkin) if she would like to get her hair cut when he shaves his his head. For the last few years, my brother has participated in Cops for Cancer by fundraising and getting his head shaved.
Lauren (nee Peanut) has since decided she wants to donate her hair as well. This is going to be an amazing day!
The girls are very excited because their Uncle will get to cut their hair on stage in the middle of Square One!
Not only are they donating their hair, but they’re raising money as well!
They have their own page where you can pledge money to support the Canadian Cancer Society!
