seventh generation gives back — buy one, give one

October 20, 2011 by Wendy S

During the month of October, every package of Seventh Generation diapers you purchase anywhere in Canada will mean one package donated to a women’s shelter in a community. That means one mother will be able to offer her child the same safe & effective, chlorine-free diapers that you’re able to offer yours.
That is the power of Mothers Helping Mothers, and with your help, we will donate up to 240,000 diapers across Canada during this month. To view a list of all the participating women’s shelters, click here.

I get to help Seventh Generation help Mother’s across Canada by donating Seventh Generation Diapers to a local charity. Our local food bank is always looking for food and supplies for babies. I will take my daughters with me to deliver four packages of Seventh Generation diapers this weekend!

My girls need to know that even needy families should have access to environmentally friendly, healthy products.

Be sure to join the 7th Gen Nation!

As a Nation member, you’ll have access to coupons, special offers and great tips for green and healthy living. You’ll also get to stay on top of all of the amazing things they do in our communities!

put on a sweater!

September 25, 2011 by Wendy S

“Put on a sweater” was always my mom’s reply to “Mom, it’s cold in here!”

“Turn off the lights”
“Who left the TV on?”
“Why is the computer running?”

Energy consumption was always on my Mom’s mind.  As a kid, I thought she was nagging so I’m sure my kids think I’m nagging.  You’ll hear me say many of the same things today.

Mom Central Canada has connected me with another environmentally conscious project, that I am very happy to be participation in.

“Do Something Little, Help Something Big”

Make your community nicer and greener with a positive act.

Energizer Canada and Evergreen are working together on their “Do Something Little, Help Something Big” initiative in which Energizer is proud tocontribute $100,000 to Evergreen to make cities more liveable.

Evergreen is a not-for-profit organization that is committed to making Canadian cities greater and more liveable… creating a more sustainable future for all of us.

You can help too! I did!

It’s really amazing how easy it is to make a difference to the environment.  By making a pledge to help the environment, Energizer will donate an additional $1 to Evergreen.

I pledged to

  1. Donate to a food drive or local food bank.
  2. Program the thermostat for night and day temperatures to use energy more efficiently.
  3. Do my laundry during off-peak hours.
  4. Smile or say a kind word to create more positive energy around me.
  5. Turn down the thermostat and put on a sweater.

My mom would be so proud!

Please make your pledge today!

it’s easier being green with Seventh Generation [giveaway]

September 6, 2011 by Wendy S

When Mom Central Canada approached me to be a part of the Seventh Generation blog tour, I jumped at the chance!

Since high school, I have been very environmentally conscious.  Back then I was a part of the Global Awareness Club — a group focused on doing things to protect the planet, like planting trees, keeping the recycling program at our school going and planning Earth Day activities.

As I get older and more aware of some of the bigger issues affecting our planet, I try to do all I can to minimize my impact on the planet and my family.  I blogged about BPA and tossed all my BPA-laced baby bottles. I used cloth diapers and training pants for both the girls.  We all take litterless lunches to work and school.  So many things everyday that add up to make a big impact on our earth.

About Seventh Generation

Choosing products that are safe for my family and for the planet is important to me.

Seventh Generation believes their products are healthy solutions for the air, surfaces, fabrics, pets and people within your home – and for the community and environment outside of it. They want their products to make a difference – from their development through to their production, purchase, use and disposal. Their Canadian line-up of products helps make it easy for small decisions to add up and make a big impact on the environment.

Products available in Canada include:

  • Free & Clear Diapers (Sizes 1-6
  • Free & Clear Baby Wipes (Tubs and Refills)

  • Automatic Dishwasher Gel

happy earth day: being treesponsible

April 23, 2010 by Wendy S

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to learn about Majesta and their BeTreesponsible movement.

For every 1 tree that they use to make their paper products, Majesta will plant 3 new trees.  They hope to plant 1 million trees in 2010.

As part of learning about this amazing movement, our family got to try their toilet paper, paper towel and facial tissues.  And for “eco” products, they work really well.  The tissue and toilet paper were surprisingly soft.  My family definitely prefers the Majesta Soft and Green toilet paper to the kind we usually by.

But not only are the products soft and durable during their expected use, they are amazingly biodegradable.

We were give 5 sheets of Charmin, 5 sheets of Majesta and 2 water bottles.  We filled the water bottles 3/4 of the way full and added the sheets to each bottle.  Watch what happened:

Water:
Water with toilet paper:
Shaken:

Charmin (left) and Magesta (right)

5 little shakes and the Majesta had already started to break apart. Where the Charmin is still in one piece. That’s crazy!

I know that our house will be switching to Majesta Soft and Green from here on out.

How would you like to change more than just the toilet paper in your bathroom??  What about making green renovations all over your house??

You can go to Majesta’s site to enter for a chance to WIN $15,000 towards a Green Makeover.

The $15,000 prize can go towards any ‘green’ home project, for example, landscaping or home improvement projects.

If we were to win, we’d do any number of projects around our house:

  • replace the remaining old windows
  • remove all the carpet to decrease the dust in the house
  • install “green” floors – like cork or bamboo
  • replace the insulation in the walls of the bedrooms upstairs and add insulation to the attic space
  • get all the ducts properly taped to reduce leakage
  • add fans to the ducts to increase air flow
  • get a proper energy assessment to see what else could be done to make us more energy effient

I’m sure I could go on, but I want to hear what YOU would do with $15,000!  So enter the Earth Day Makeover contest and then comment here!

“I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central and received a Majesta informational gift pack and Chapters gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
