breathing easier: a lesson in the english language

November 27, 2007 by Wendy S

After we got the new furnace installed last Friday, we were advised to have our ducts cleaned.

Now our house is a few pounds lighter as they had never been done.  Eeewww!  Our house is 22 years old and not one of the previous owners had ever done it.  That’s just gross.  And we know that the last people had a cat and we have a dog so that a lot of stuff to be in the ducts.

But do you know how difficult it can be to try to explain to an almost-three-year-old the difference between a “duct” and a “duck”?

It came down to me showing her the metal pipes in the basement and the vents in the floors upstairs for her to understand what a duct is.

I’m sure she was picturing a couple guys coming in the house with some quacking animals and her getting to have a bath with them!!  LOL.  Too funny!

lost in emotion

November 9, 2007 by Wendy S

Ya, okay…it’s a bad 80s hit. So what.

I have mixed emotions about todays events: My baby is pulling up to a stand.

So I say “Yippee!” but it also makes me sad. We had to drop the crib to it’s lowest position. I know that she is going to grow up, but I didn’t want it to happen so quickly.

Munchkin’s getting to be a smart little cookie too. A few weeks ago in Fortino’s, I handed Munchkin the apples to hold and this conversation ensued:

“I’ll pay for them, Mommy”
“That’s okay. You don’t have any money”
“Yes, I do.”
“Okay, yes, you do. But that only works at Canadian Tire.”
“Oh. But I’ll pay for them.”
“You still don’t have any money.”
“Can I borrow some?”

Ack! She’s not even 3 and she’s already asking to borrow money. Sometimes she’s too much!

2 molars at once!?!

November 5, 2007 by Wendy S

When it rains, it pours, right? Tho it is funny I say that since yesterday, it actually did rain (and the river in our basement returned).

Since Munchkin got up at 7:30 yesterday morning, we took a drive to Diaper-Eez to pick up some larger diaper covers. While in the car, Munchkin pulled off her hat as she usually does. I said “Munchkin, why must you pull off your hat?” She then put her hand to her head and said “hat”.

Jeremy came over to hang out and watch movies. He brought sausages and macaroni salad for lunch too! Munchkin didn’t nap very long so having an extra person to entertain her worked well.

Jeremy left around 2ish, which gave Hubby and I time to finish getting ready to go out. Hubby’s parents arrived at 5 for dinner. Hubby had made pork roast with veggies, potatoes and garlic bread. It was so yummy. After dinner, I got Munchkin ready for bed early since she hadn’t napped, and we had to get to Terry’s surprise 40th B-day.

The weather was horrible. It had started as snow mid afternoon, but by the time Hubby’s parents arrived, it had turned to freezing rain. We got to the party on time, and Terry was very surprised. We spent the night mingling with Terry and Hubby’s co-workers.

By the time we left, it was just raining. We arrived home to find Hubby’s mom rocking Munchkin. She had woken up and wouldn’t go back to sleep. It took me a while of rocking and trying to put her down to recognize the “I’m in pain, Mommy” cry.

I checked her gums…and voila! A molar cutting though. Oh, wait! There’s another! Poor thing. I wouldn’t be able to sleep either. So a dose of Tylenol and some Orajel should to the trick. Um. No.

So 1am, I bring the obviously tired, in pain, little girl to bed with me. There was no way i was going to sleep in the rocking chair. She went right to sleep. Around 5:30 she woke up, but was still tired. So back to her room we went, rocked in the chair and she was asleep enough to be put back in her crib. Thank goodness she slept until 8:30!

She’s napping now and has been for a hour. After she wakes, we’re heading to Jeremy’s house for the Superbown and his birthday celebrations! Ummm…cake!

forget webster…we’ve got munchkin!

October 21, 2006 by Wendy S

So we got Munchkin winter boots with Barbie on them. I didn’t really care what was on them, I bought them because they co-ordinated with her snow suit.

But if you ask Munchkin who is on her boots, she says “Bible”.

Huh??

And how embarrassing is that when she says it in the shoe section filled with parents and kids.

It’s amazing how her vocabulary is increasing everyday, but it’s funny how she mixes words up. Maybe we should send Munchkin’s entries into the Webster Dictionary people and see what they think:

Bi·ble (bbl)

1.Trademark. a brand of doll representing a slim, shapely young woman, esp. one with blond hair, blue eyes, and fair skin.

–noun

2.Also called Barbie doll. a person, esp. a young woman, perceived as blandly attractive and vacuous.

out of context?

September 28, 2006 by Wendy S

We tell Munchkin that it’s ‘dangerous’ to jump on the bed and it’s ‘dangerous’ to stand in the bathtub.
So the other night she stands in the tub…

Me: Munchkin, sit down
Munchkin: Dangerous
Me: That’s right. Standing in the tub is dangerous and you could get a big boo-boo.
Munchkin: Mommy dangerous
Me: I’m dangerous?? (Trying to contain myself from laffing out loud)

It kills me sometimes with the words she says and the fact that she uses them properly (most of the time)
