Fibre1 Almond & Cluster Delight Cereal is not your grandfather’s fibre cereal #Fibre1ACD #coupon

June 24, 2013 by Wendy S

Before starting on my quest for a healthier lifestyle, fibre always made me think of bran cereals and prunes that grandfathers would eat to stay regular.  Oi!  That cereal was boring and flavaourless and prunes, in my opinion, are yucky.

But fibre is very important for good over-all health and it is an important part of a balanced diet.

Insoluble fibre helps to keep you regular. Insoluble fibre is found in some vegetables and fruit, whole grains and wheat bran.

Soluble fibre helps to lower cholesterol and control blood glucose. Soluble fibre is found in some fruits like apples and oranges, vegetables like carrots, okra and eggplant, oats, barley, psyllium, and legumes like beans and lentils.

It is important to eat a variety of fibre-rich foods to get the health benefits of both types of fibre.

~ from Eat Right Ontario

Lucky for us, General Mills has created a delicious cereal that has 40% of our daily-recommended intake of fibre in only 1 bowl!

Fibre1 Almond & Cluster Delight Cereal is a mix of flakes, clusters and almonds that is yummy to eat and so good for you!

I got to try a box and it hasn’t hit store shelves yet.  When it does I’m going to get more!

And you can too!

Want to try it out for yourself?

2013 @FordCanada Edge SEL is roomy and fun to drive! {review}

April 3, 2013 by Wendy S

Thanks to Ford Canada, I had the opportunity to test drive the 2013 Ford Edge SEL AWD for a week, which really allowed me to get to know this hip CUV.The 2013 Edge SEL AWD I tested had a 3.5L V6 engine with automatic transmission, MyFord Touch, Sync voice activated system, reverse sensing system, keyless entry, drivers entry package and power liftgate.  The SEL appearance package includes the 20″ machine aluminum wheels.  (MSRP $43,279 as tested)

At First Glance

With the key still in my pocket, I walked up to the Edge, reached for the handle and it automatically unlocked.  I love not having to juggle keys, trying to find the button to unlock the door.

Once inside, I was impressed with the sleek lines and smooth surfaces.

The seats felt like suede and were very comfortable. Everything was adjustable! The 10-way power driver’s seat went up and down, back and forth and even had an adjustable lumbar support. Being able to see over the steering wheel is important when you’re shorter, like me. I love the feeling of being higher up, as you are able to see so much more.

The controls on the steering wheel and voice commands make changing the settings great! SYNC® with MyFord Touch® allowed me to connect my iPhone, control the temperature, see how much gas I had left, how many kilometres I had left until I needed to fill up, and so much more!

Getting around

I really enjoyed driving it. I’m not very technical when it comes to cars, but I can tell you what I like!

I like the power it has, especially for those times you need quick acceleration, like changing lanes or merging onto the highway. Also, it handles really well around turns, thanks to the independent front and rear suspension.

The back-up camera and sensor are great safety features. You can see what is behind you, and it beeps when things are within a certain range.   In a family-oriented neighbourhood like ours, children at play can be unpredictable.  Even with paying close attention to where they are, they might not be watching you.  Having the vehicle sense when something is behind you reduces potential collisions.

If I was to purchase this vehicle, I’d choose the front wheel drive (FWD) option instead of all-wheel drive (AWD).  With the amount of driving that I do, the FWD would give me better fuel economy.

Let’s check out the back seat!

As a mom of two, the safety and comfort of my kids is very important.

The back seat is very spacious, and the girls loved the center arm rest with pop-up cup holders.

Child Seat Installation

Installing Lauren’s forward-facing car seat was very easy.

The owner’s manual has great instructions telling you where the car seats can be installed.

I really loved the special instructions about where to put the tether.  It is to run over the seat between the head rest restraint posts before attaching to the tether anchor.

Once I located all of the anchor points, it was time to get installing!

I like to attach the tether first so that I can ensure that it’s tight enough. Once the UAS connectors on the car seat were clipped to the UAS anchors in the car, I knelt in the seat and pulled the UAS belt tight.  When I tried to shake the car seat at the belt path, the whole vehicle moved so I knew it was tight!

Great storage!

Ford has done a great job of utilizing a lot of the space.

In the front console, there is a great storage section where you can connect your devices and tuck them away.  The tray is removable for more storage underneath.

And they even snuck in a small section under the dash behind the console.  It’s perfect for extra napkins, tissue or other small objects that need to be secured and out of the way.

The rear seats fold down to allow for larger loads.

Family approved!

The Edge is a great vehicle for our family of 4 — comfy seating for everyone and room in the back for everything you’d need to bring with you. The Edge has great safety features which will bring peace of mind to parents while transporting their loved ones.

Two big thumbs up from this mom!

Beauty and the Beast 3D opens today!

January 13, 2012 by Wendy S

Beauty and the Beast 3D opens in theaters today!!
It’s been 20 years since Beauty and the Beast brought magic to the big screen and now it’s back in 3D!

I remember going to see Beauty and the Beast when it first came out in 1991. I was 17 years old and it was a first date. I loved the movie, the songs, the story.  I eventually owned the movie on VHS and had the soundtrack on CD.

When the movie was released on DVD last year, I purchased for the me the girls. They love the movie and now they are singing along to all the songs.

Last weekend, my family and I had the pleasure of seeing the advanced screening of Beauty and the Beast 3D. We were so excited!

I was a little apprehensive about the fact that it was 3D.  How were they going to take a 2D movie and turn it into 3D?  The CGI graphics of animated movies today are much different than the animated graphics from 20 years ago.  But I put on my glasses and got goosebumps when I heard the music start.

Surprisingly the graphics were amazing! The 3D parts of the movie weren’t obtrusive and didn’t take away from the original feel of the movie.  I tried very hard to find spots int he movie where you could tell that they changed the graphics during the 3D process.  There were only a few spots that looked different from the original but  I’m not going to point them out, because I’m sure most people aren’t going to scrutinize the movie like I did. Most of the enhancements were subtle — the dust floating in the beam of light, the puffs of smoke, the wind blowing.  I would have to say that “Be Our Guest” is my favorite song and was always my favorite part of the movie; the 3D effects totally added to that scene!  As you can tell, I loved it!

I hope that everyone goes to see the magic of Beauty and the Beast 3D. You won’t be disappointed!

Oh, and as a special treat before the movie starts, you’ll get to see the Tangled Ever After short film.

Here is a preview of the short film — the whole things is very cute!

The new short spotlights the royal wedding of Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) and Flynn Rider – a.k.a Eugene (Zachary Levi).

TANGLED directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard bring back some of Disney’s most beloved characters when TANGLED EVER AFTER picks up where TANGLED left off. The Kingdom is in a festive mood as everyone gathers for the royal wedding of Rapunzel and Flynn. However, when Pascal and Maximus, as flower chameleon and ring bearer, respectively, lose the gold bands, a frenzied search and recovery mission gets underway. As the desperate duo tries to find the rings before anyone discovers that they’re missing, they leave behind a trail of comical chaos that includes flying lanterns, a flock of doves, a wine barrel barricade and a very sticky finale. Will Maximus and Pascal save the day and make it to the church in time? And will they ever get Flynn’s nose right?

If you do go see the movie, come back here and let me know what you think about it.  I hope you love it too!

Disclosure – I was given tickets to the advanced screening in exchange for blogging about the release of the movie and hosting a ticket giveaway. The opinions about the movie is strictly my own.
